Spiramycin Tablets is an antibiotic used to treat a parasitic infection known as Toxoplasmosis in pregnant women. It helps to lower the risk of transmission of toxoplasma infection from the mother to the unborn child. Rarely, it may also be used to treat some other infections.
Spiramycin Tablets should be taken orally on an empty stomach. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping the medicine too early may lead to the infection returning or worsening.
Commonly seen side effects seen with this medicine include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea. These are usually temporary and subside with the completion of treatment. Consult your doctor if these side effects do not resolve or persist for a longer duration.
Regular monitoring of liver function tests (LFTs) may be required while using this medicine. This medicine is safe to use during pregnancy. However, it will not affect the severity of the disease if the unborn child has already been infected. Inform your doctor if you have any previous history of allergy before taking this medicine.
